Thank You For Being a Friend-Vol. 41

“Luna had decorated her bedroom ceiling with five beautifully painted faces: Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and Neville. They were not moving as the portraits at Hogwarts moved, but there was a certain magic about them all the same: Harry thought they breathed. What appeared to be fine golden chains wove around the pictures, linking them together, but after examining them for a minute or so, Harry realized that the chains were actually one word, repeated a thousand times in golden ink: friends . . . friends . . . friends . . .”  ~J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

It’s that time of year again where we take a moment to stop and count our blessings; Christy and I would like to use this space and this moment to be thankful for the words that have built bridges of friendships across the blogosphere; to be thankful for you and to you. Once upon a time connections such as ours would never have existed, we would never have met, we would not have all these words threaded between us tying us together as a community. For being in this time of smaller world and having the chance to meet you, we are thankful.  Love and Light, Jennie and Christy

“The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, not the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when you discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to trust you with a friendship.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

“A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.” ~Elbert Hubbard

“The friend who holds your hand and says the wrong thing is made of dearer stuff than the one who stays away.” ~Barbara Kingsolver

“No human relation gives one possession in another—every two souls are absolutely different. In friendship or in love, the two side by side raise hands together to find what one cannot reach alone.” ~Khalil Gibran

“She is a friend of my mind. She gather me, man. The pieces I am, she gather them and give them back to me in all the right order.” ~Toni Morrison, Beloved

“We cannot tell the precise moment when friendship is formed. As in filling a vessel drop by drop, there is at last a drop which makes it run over; so in a series of kindnesses there is at last one which makes the heart run over.” ~Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

“Close friends are truly life’s treasures. Sometimes they know us better than we know ourselves. With gentle honesty, they are there to guide and support us, to share our laughter and our tears. Their presence reminds us that we are never really alone.” ~Vincent van Gogh

“I hold this to be the highest task of a bond between two people: that each should stand guard over the solitude of the other.” ~Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

“You, of all people, deserve a happy ending. Despite everything that happened to you, you aren’t bitter. You aren’t cold. You’ve just retreated a little and been shy, and that’s okay. If I were a fairy godmother, I would give you your heart’s desire in an instant. And I would wipe away your tears and tell you not to cry.” ~Sylvain Reynard

“There is a twilight zone in our hearts that we ourselves cannot see. Even when we know quite a lot about ourselves-our gifts and weaknesses, our ambitions and aspirations, our motives and our drives-large parts of ourselves remain in the shadow of consciousness. This is a very good thing. We will always remain partially hidden to ourselves. Other people, especially those who love us, can often see our twilight zones better than we ourselves can. The way we are seen and understood by others is different from the way we see and understand ourselves. We will never fully know the significance of our presence in the lives of our friends. That’s a grace, a grace that calls us not only to humility, but to a deep trust in those who love us. It is the twilight zones of our hearts where true friendships are born.”

~Henri J.M. Nouwen

    1. I took some pics you’ve been waiting to see and I keep forgetting to send them to you (I need a post-it note actually attached to my brain lately 😉 )

I adore the Lewis quote. There were so many great friendship quotes and passages to choose from it was hard to narrow them down. xo!

  5. I’m stealing this thought from somewhere, because it fits your theme.

A good friend will sit and listen and will show compassion when you tell them you have a dead body in the trunk. A great friend will grab a couple of shovels.
